Eliminate mites with dry ice

Eliminate mites with dry ice

If you notice that your winter clothes, blankets, rugs etc. are worn out or have holes in them, that means they have been overrun by mites. A remedy for this problem is the use of dry ice.

Dry ice (solid carbon dioxide) can kill mites, moths, eggs and larvae by fumigation, without introducing harmful chemicals into the home environment.

Use at least 2 kg of dry ice for 30 liters.

Handle dry ice with care using gloves.

Wrap the dry ice in a rag and then place it inside the bag with the clothes, blankets, pillows, upholstery to be fumigated. Close the bag so that the carbon dioxide gas can expand, while the dry ice sublimates in the bag.

The carbon dioxide gas will suffocate the mites, larvae etc.

When the dry ice has completely sublimated, seal the bag tightly and store the bagged items. Newborn moth larvae are very small and able to break free in the pouch on the outside through very small openings in search of ‘food’, so storage after fumigation is very important.
