Dry ice blasting or dry ice cleaning is a cleaning system that uses solid carbon dioxide particles.

In this system, a specific industrial sandblasting machine is utilized to release dry ice in various forms (pellets, microgranules, or snow) instead of projecting abrasive elements.

The peculiarity of dry ice is to remove the contaminant, then it cleans the product, without modifying its surface.

Dry ice works by means of three physical principles:

❄︎Kinetic energy derived from compressed air, which is the vehicle that transports dry ice and therefore acquires with speed a certain energy

❄︎ Thermal shock resulting from dry ice temperature, that is -78.5°, then cools and embrittles the contaminant

Sublimation that occurs when dry ice impinges on the surface of the substrate to be treated, changing from a solid to a gaseous state (in this step, the gas that develops from the state transformation of dry ice increases 750-fold, causing micro-explosions).

Thanks to these three factors, kinetic energy, thermal shock and violent sublimation (micro explosions), you get the cleaning and removal of contaminants from the substrates to be treated.
