Cryogenic sepration

Cryogenic separation is an advanced technology that allows different materials to be separated using the extreme cold of liquid nitrogen.

This process can be applied to various metals and plastics, enabling the recovery of substrates or scrap materials for subsequent reuse, while ensuring precision, safety, and respect for the original characteristics of the treated components.

The Main Cryogenic Separation Processes

Depending on the material and type of item, the cryogenic separation process takes on different names and methods:

  • Cryogenic deflashing: enables the recovery of rejected or scrap parts for reuse. This process is suitable for a wide range of applications, including automotive technical components, electrical cables, ski boots, sports equipment, buckles and safety belts, seals, gaskets, and many other industrial products.
  • Cryogenic De-rubberizing: enables the separation and recovery of scrap items such as anti-vibration mounts, cushion tires, offset printing rollers, tank tracks, gaskets, rings, and other rubber or elastomeric components.
  • De-flasking: specific to the electroplating industry, it allows the removal of elastomer or PVC coatings from electroplating frames and other items such as pumps, tanks, hoppers, mills, cyclones, meshes, baskets, wheels, cups, rollers, and impellers.
  • Tank stripping: used for the maintenance or refurbishment of tanks, this process removes the internal wear-resistant lining made of elastomer or polyurethane. The same technique can also be applied to vibratory finishing barrels and other similar industrial equipment.

Advantages of Cryogenic Separation

The cryogenic process using liquid nitrogen offers numerous benefits:

  • Preserved geometry and structure of the treated substrate, without deformation or damage
  • Environmental friendliness, thanks to the elimination of chemicals and reduced waste disposal
  • Material recovery and reuse, providing cost savings and greater industrial sustainability
  • Precision and safety, ensuring a controlled and reliable process even for complex components

Thanks to these features, M.E.C.’s cryogenic separations represent an innovative and eco-friendly solution for material recovery, industrial maintenance, and sustainable waste management, always ensuring maximum efficiency and protection of the items.
